The Celtics will be signing Javonte Green to a partially guaranteed deal, league sources told ESPN. Green played well for Boston's summer league team, averaging 10.8 points and shooting 50 percent from the field in 5 games. He'll get a shot at earning Boston's final roster spot.

In five games for the Celtics in the Summer League, Javonte Green averaged 10.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. In college at Radford, he was a stalwart on defense and averaged 1.8 steals and 8.0 rebounds. He also managed to score 14.4 points per game despite an inconsistent shooting touch.
For the past few seasons, Green played in Europe. He averaged 13.9 points and 2.5 steals per game in 2018-19 for the German club Ratiopharm Ulm in 15 EuroCup games.
In an interview during the Summer League, Green shared what he believes are his strengths. For him, defense is his strongest asset. Per Tom Westerholm of Mass Live:
“I just want them to see what I’m capable of doing on the court,” Green said after one particularly impressive game in Las Vegas. “I think I’m a very athletic person and I think they know that. But to do it in their style of play, in their rules, I think that shows them a lot.”
“I think I’m very smart on defense to read the next play and help my teammates do what they have to do to get in the position we have to be in to get stops,” Green said in Las Vegas.
Now, Green has the chance to show everyone what he's made of. The Celtics could certainly use another elite defender on their squad.
