Gordon Hayward just took a big step towards regaining a 100 percent health status. According to Marc J. Spears of ESPN, the Boston Celtics forward went under the knife recently to take out the plate and screws from his leg.
Celtics say Gordon Hayward had surgery to remove the plate & screws implanted following the broken fibula he suffered on Oct. 17. His ankle and fibula are both structurally sound. He is scheduled to return to basketball activities in 6-8 weeks and be ready for training camp.
This is an encouraging update not only for Gordon Hayward but for the Celtics as well. Boston was able to weather the lengthy absence of Hayward, who suffered a gruesome lower-body injury in the season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers back in October, as the team managed to make it all the way into the Eastern Conference Finals without him – and Kyrie Irving.
Article Continues BelowDespite this latest positive development, Hayward remains without a timetable for return. Prior to his latest surgery, Hayward was doing one-on-one drills and even said that he’s “feeling like an athlete again.”
Hayward arrived in Boston during last year’s free agency, signing a four-year deal worth $127.8 million, though his first season with the team was basically nulled by his injury.
In eight seasons in the NBA, the former Butler Bulldogs star has career averages of 15.6 points, 3.4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game.
