Reddit user LefwanArhaz pointed out a very interesting statistical comparison between 15-year veteran Carmelo Anthony and sophomore Jaylen Brown. His post compares the playoff success rates of these two players and not surprisingly, it is the younger Brown that has more playoff series wins than Anthony.
Brown outshines Melo in this particular area with four series wins against the latter’s three.
With the Boston Celtics, the 6-foot-7 guard/forward had two series wins last season against the Chicago Bulls in the first round and the Washington Wizards in the second round last season as a rookie as well as two this year against the Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers.
Article Continues BelowDespite the fact that Anthony has only missed the post-season four times in 15 years, he has only been to the second round of the Playoffs twice. This was in the 2012-13 season with the New York Knicks (when they defeated the Celtics) and in the 2008-09 season while with the Denver Nuggets against the New Orleans Hornets. This was succeeded with a second-round win versus the Dallas Mavericks which brings the now 33 year old to a total of three wins. He's made the playoffs 11 times, reaching the Conference Finals once, the Conference semi-finals once, and bowing out in the first round 11 times.
Nonetheless this fact does not prove that Brown is a better player than Anthony – or vice versa. These are two very different players with varying skill sets. We have a young talent whose career is just taking off being compared to one of the great scorers who is past his prime.
For now though, it is only going to be Brown that we will be able to focus our attention on as he and the Celtics attempt to topple the juggernaut that is LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
