It has not been the best of starts for Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving this season. In an attempt to perhaps shake off some of the misfortune he has faced at the start of the new campaign, the 26-year-old has decided to get rid of his afro and revert back to a more familiar hairstyle.

Irving is indeed looking fresh, and hopefully it is also going to be a fresh start for him on the court.

In six starts for the Celtics this season, Irving is averaging an uncharacteristic 14.0 points on 39.1 percent shooting and only 1.2 3-pointers per contest. However, he has seen an uptick in his rebounding (4.8), while his assists (5.5) match his career average.

It's just a matter of time before Irving's shot begins to fall (he is a career 46.1 percent shooter), so we should see the Kyrie of old sooner rather than later. Perhaps the change in hairstyle could help facilitate the transition.

The good news for Irving is that his team has done fairly well thus far despite their star point guard's early-season struggles. The Celtics are 4-2 to start the new campaign, which is a highlighted by an opening-night victory against the Philadelphia 76ers.

This is going to be a very important year for Irving in terms of determining his immediate future. He has a player option on his contract next season, which means that despite verbally committing himself to the C's for the next few years, he can still very well decide to walk away from Boston next summer. After all, no extension has been signed yet, so until a deal is made official, anything is possible.
