During the first quarter of their preseason finale against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart became involved in an on-court altercation with J.R. Smith. Smart, who shoved Smith in the back, was ejected from the game. As a result, both players were later issued fines from the NBA ($15,000 for Smith and $25,000 for Smart). Now, just a few days after the scuffle, Smart says he's ready to “move on.”

“I wasn't surprised,” Smart told masslive.com, referring to the fine he received from the league. “Like I said, I figured something was coming. I didn't know exactly what it was, but I knew something was coming. It's all good. It's done with. Moving on.”

Smart's shove came after he saw Smith and Celtics big man Aron Baynes involved in a dispute.

Smith was caught in a mismatched defensive set with Celtics big man Aron Baynes on the low block. As the two players jockeyed for position, their arms became interlocked. Terry Rozier knocked down a fall-away jumper on the play. However, after the possession, Baynes pulled Smith all the way around his body with an awkward arm bar move.

Smith instantly retaliated with a shove. Smart saw the action unfolding and sprinted from the opposite end of the floor to defend his teammate. It was just preseason game, but things escalated quickly.

“I didn't know what was going to come out of it,” Smart told masslive.com. “But whatever did, you know, like I said, I would man up and take the consequences. You know, the league issued what they issued, and now it's time for us to move on as a team.”

Smart and the Celtics will kick off their regular season campaign on October 16, when they'll welcome the Philadelphia 76ers to TD Garden. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. EST with TNT having live broadcast coverage.
