It’s not only Donovan Mitchell and the Utah Jazz who have been taking potshots at Philadelphia 76ers rookie Ben Simmons. Prior to Thursday’s Game 2 of the series between the Sixers and the Boston Celtics at TD Garden, the Boston team of NBC Sports seemed to mock Simmons and his shooting when it posted this on the Celtics on NBC Sports Boston Twitter account:
I mean at least our “rookie” can shoot 🤷♀️ pic.twitter.com/GQUYPu12AL

The “our rookie” part was also a reference to Celtics first-year small forward Jayson Tatum, who has been shooting the rock well this season. Back in the regular season, Tatum averaged 13.9 points and made 47.5 percent of his shots from the field. Even more impressive was his accuracy from deep, as he finished the regular season with a 43.4 3-point shooting percentage.
Article Continues BelowAs for Ben Simmons, the favorite to win the Rookie of the Year award for this season, he’s actually better than Tatum in field goal shooting percentage with a 54.5 clip, but it’s a little skewed considering his stubbornness when it comes to shooting the three-ball. In 81 games in the regular season, Simmons took only 11 3-point shots, mostly preferring to take most of his attempts when he’s inside the painted area.
NBCS surely felt justified when they also saw Simmons go 0-for-4 from the floor and finished with just a point in Game 2’s 108-103 loss to the Celtics. Tatum, on the other hand, had 21 points on 7-for-14 shooting, including two 3-pointers.
Game 3 of the series will be played this coming Saturday in Philadelphia.
