The Boston Celtics' reserve guard in Terry Rozier weighs in on his contract extension negotiations as the October 15 deadline looms.
As reported by Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, Rozier is trying to focus on the team, rather than the contract extension. He admitted that there's a bit of pressure on inking the deal, noting that if he doesn't sign before the October deadline, a new set of talks could still take place next summer.
“We’ve been trying to focus on us and I’ve been trying to take the pressure off the extension thing. So I’m focused on the team. If it’s right for me to sign an extension, I will. If it’s not, it still can happen in the summer.”
Rozier is in the final year of a four-year, $8.8 million deal that he signed back in 2015 as a first-round pick (16th overall). He will play a backup role this season to Celtics star guard Kyrie Irving.
Terry Rozier made his mark in the playoffs last season. With Irving nursing an injury, Rozier formed a critical part of the team's playoff run. In 19 games, the 24-year-old logged in 16.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.
Due to his relatively-stellar performance in the playoffs, several trade rumors sprouted involving the Phoenix Suns, among other teams, who believe that Rozier is capable of being a starting guard.
