The Boston Celtics reportedly speak with All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving all the time about his future and still feel very comfortable that he will re-sign with the team in the summer, according to Chris Mannix of The Crossover.

Kyrie Irving can become an unrestricted free agent after this season ends if he declines his 2019-20 player option with the Celtics.

The All-Star guard verbally committed to re-sign with the Celtics before this season started, but his comments on Friday at Madison Square Garden have some people around the league thinking he's going to bolt Beantown.

However, according to Mannix, it appears the Celtics are still operating under the impression that Kyrie Irving will stay in Boston for the long-term.

“They talk to him all the time,” Mannix said on the Full 48 podcast with Bleacher Report's Howard Beck. “And as recently as Thursday, I was told that this week they talked to Kyrie and they still feel very comfortable that he wants to be in Boston and that this is where he’s going to be long-term.”

Before the season began, the Celtics were picked by many to cruise through the Eastern Conference and play in the NBA Finals.

This season has been anything but smooth for Boston, though. They are 33-19 entering Saturday, which is good for fourth place in the East, but there has been a lot of dysfunction behind the scenes in the locker room.

The Celtics can still go on a deep playoff run which will help Kyrie Irving stay in Boston. Until then, there's going to be a lot of speculation on Uncle Drew's future.
