We all idolize someone growing up. For Boston Celtics‘ guard Isaiah Thomas, it has been mostly players that resemble his stature. This includes Allen Iverson, Nate “Tiny” Archibald and Damon Stoudamire.
The 5-foot-9 Washington alum posted several Stoudamire highlights in an Instagram story on Thursday night. “Thanks Mighty Mouse for the highlight tape,” he captioned the first clip, shining light to Stoudamire's nickname.
Thomas has patterned his game after Stoudamire, and the similarities are evident when watching the highlights. Stoudamire's stop-and-start dribbles and his reckless abandon going to the rim are etched into Thomas' game.
“Our games are identical,” Thomas wrote in another caption.
It's refreshing to see NBA players shine light on the often-forgotten good players in the league that don't ring a bell as much as Hall-of-Famers do.
Standing at 5 feet, 10 inches, Stoudamire was the 1996 Rookie of the Year and spent the majority of his 13-year career as a member of the Portland Trail Blazers.
Damon Stoudamire started his career with the Toronto Raptors where he enjoyed his career-best numbers, averaging 19.6 points and nine assists per game in 41.2 minutes per game with 200 games started.
