After a loaded Independence Day filled with decisions for many free agents and one major indecision for others, members of the media were not shy to give Gordon Hayward and his camp the merited backlash after an original report by ESPN's Chris Haynes was refuted by saying he indeed had not made a decision.

This report was then refuted by his camp and consequently picked up by the media, including his new colleague Adrian Wojnarowski.
The Utah Jazz are still waiting to be told of Gordon Hayward's intentions, league source tells ESPN. Hayward hasn't told them his plans yet.

Some writers even went as far as delving into the decision (or indecision?) process.
League source tells me "Gordon has changed his mind four times in the last four days"

Source says "this has been the most difficult decision of Gordon's life"

But upon finding out with a self-written piece published minutes before the terms of the deal went live, the Twitter world exploded into a frenzy of I told you so's — starting with a simple GIF of Hulk Hogan by Haynes himself, who was the first to the race.

This feels like when fans rush the court & then they have to put .2 secs back on the clock & they rush again but it feels lame the 2nd time

Some others had harsher criticism for him and his camp.

He and his people screwed up and tried to discredit a good reporter (who did fine work here) as cover, which isn't especially cool

My bad. Point remains, silly to act like the news ain't the news because you want to publish your own essay. https://t.co/2ohyxBxGUe

Hayward even got some praise for his deadline-meeting skills.

All in all, Hayward is now a Celtic to the delight of the people in Boston and the sorrow of Utah faithful, though sometimes the pain is better when it just happens all at once.
It's like a band-aid, just rip it off.
