Boston Celtics fans, if you're worried about the team's stagnant offense and record, fear not. The cavalry might just be on its way.
It was just earlier this very month that Celtics GM Danny Ainge was rumored to be linked to Orlando in trade rumors for two-time All-Star Nikola Vucevic. However, at this point in his career, Vucevic has proved to be an absolute keeper in his own right as a 20/14 floor spreader.
Partnered with young talents like Jonathan Isaac and Cole Anthony (not to mention a seemingly resurgent Markelle Fultz, remember him?), Orlando's injured roster has seemingly boundless potential.
With Vucevic off the table then, it seems that Orlando's best and biggest trade pieces are the underrated Evan Fournier and a constantly developing Aaron Gordon.
Article Continues BelowEnter Danny Ainge once more. The Celtics are in need of additional secondary shotmaking and athleticism beyond their smaller wings in Brown and Tatum. Meanwhile, Orlando might feel like it's overpaying for Aaron Gordon's talents (15, 7, and 4 on 40% from three), and wants a primary perimeter threat to pair with Vucevic.
Ainge, somehow, still has all the pieces and youth to answer Orlando's needs. Romeo Langford won't see a lot of burn on a roster that's ready for the playoffs, but Orlando will be intrigued by his potential and athleticism. Kemba Walker gives them a perimeter threat that fits on Vooch's timeline, and at least buys some time for Fultz, Langford (hypothetically), and Anthony.
Such a trade has apparently already been discussed, according to The Athletic, and The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor has also reported about the Celtics' hunt for a dynamic four and Orlando's shopping of Gordon for the right price.
Both teams will have to move fast with Thursday's trade deadline approaching, and if history tells us anything, it's that the NBA landscape is about to get weird. Expect Ainge dive into the pool.
