Boston Celtics point guard Kemba Walker says Team USA has “great chemistry” on and off the court.
During their first night in China, members of Team USA went out for dinner. Walker, who signed a $140 million contract with the Celtics this summer, picked up the tab.
Article Continues Below“We have great chemistry, I think. We're getting along really well,” Walker said after practice Friday at an international school in the Pudong section of the sprawling city, via Brian Windhorst of ESPN. “We want to play for each other, and that's the biggest thing.”
Walker picked up the check for the group of 20, part of the surcharge of his new $140 million contract he signed with the Boston Celtics earlier this summer. “It's not the first time I've gotten the bill this summer and won't be the last,” he joked.
Team USA opens up group play against the Czech Republic when the FIBA World Cup starts on Sept. 1. The roster is made up of Kemba Walker, Derrick White, Marcus Smart, Joe Harris, Donovan Mitchell, Jaylen Brown, Khris Middleton, Jayson Tatum, Harrison Barnes, Brook Lopez, Mason Plumlee and Myles Turner.
Team USA has a lot of critics behind them since the roster lacks superstar power. That doesn't bother the guys at all, as they are motivated to prove the doubters wrong.
