The Brooklyn Nets will pay for hourly workers at the Barclays Center amid the NBA‘s coronavirus suspension.

The NBA suspended the season on Wednesday after Utah Jazz All-Star Rudy Gobert tested positive for the coronavirus.

Thursday brought even worse news, as Jazz star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell has the virus as well.

The Nets are just the latest pro franchise team to look out for its hourly arena workers:

With the aim of helping Barclays Center staff get through this difficult time, we commit to provide relief to hourly employees for the paychecks they would have earned if Brooklyn Nets regular season games and non-Nets events at Barclays Center were to continue as originally scheduled. The plan will cover the period from now until the end of May unless the events are rescheduled before that. We will work closely and expeditiously with our partners, including service contractors, event promoters and unions to implement this plan.

Most pundits believe the 2019-20 NBA season is over. There are some folks who are praying the campaign can resume in July or August maybe.

The Nets went 30-34 before the season got suspended. They are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings. The Nets, should they have made the postseason, were going to play without superstars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Both champions are out with injuries.

The Nets should be title contenders in 2020-21 once Durant and Irving suit up together next to DeAndre Jordan, Caris LeVert and Spencer Dinwiddie.
