Caris LeVert will get the chance to co-star alongside Kyrie Irving now that Kevin Durant has been ruled out for the 2019-20 season. The Brooklyn Nets forward was on an upward trajectory before suffering an injury early in this past season, which limited him to only 40 games.

LeVert is confident he can be a star and be an admirable stand-in for KD:

“I’ve always felt like I was that guy,” LeVert told Michael Lee of The Athletic. “I’m at the point where now I feel I can control how good I can be. I’m going to push myself every single day and see where that ceiling is. I don’t know where it is. I don’t like to put limits on myself.”

LeVert was poised to be the go-to scorer heading into last season, only to be replaced by D'Angelo Russell after going down to an injury which many thought would sideline him the entire season. The 6-foot-6 swingman was averaging a hair over 18 points per game through the first 14 games of the season, draining two game-winning baskets for Brooklyn through that short stint.

A dislocated right foot forced him to sit out for the next three months. He ultimately returned and impressively thrived during the playoffs, scoring 21 points per game during a first-round exit. LeVert lives for those moments:

“I love big games. I love playing on TV, playing in big environments. I thrive in those environments,” said LeVert. “I felt like last year we were a good team but people didn’t really see it. Because we weren’t really on TV that much and people didn’t really watch the Nets like that. This year, with obviously KD, Kyrie and DeAndre [Jordan], I feel like naturally, we’ll get more attention as a team. I’m super competitive, so I love being my best when my best is needed.”

As this 2019-20 season draws near, LeVert will have a chance to develop a partnership with Irving and regain his role as one of the most talented offensive options available in Brooklyn.
