While there were expectations that Ben Simmons could play for the Brooklyn Nets soon, that doesn't seem to be the case now.

After the Nets pulled the trigger to trade James Harden to the Philadelphia 76ers for Ben Simmons for a slew of players and picks, many thought it won't be long for the Aussie playmaker to suit up for the team. After all, he is relatively healthy and only didn't play because he chose not to after demanding for a trade from the Sixers.

Unfortunately for Brooklyn and their fanbase, they still have to wait for some time to see Simmons in black and white jersey and throwing dimes to Kevin Durant (when he returns, of course). According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the 25-year-old playmaker is dealing with back soreness as he works his way into game shape. With that said, he needs more time to strengthen the area that is sore.

Ben Simmons' problems is likely the result of him being sidelined for more than half of the season. Even though he continued to work out while he was not playing, getting back to game shape is certainly not as easy as some might think it is.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that Simmons also had a back injury when he reported for the Sixers' training camp. The issue might have appeared again after a long break from NBA action.

Hopefully, though, the injury is not serious and the Nets will get Simmons before the postseason. After all, with their current position in the NBA standings (eighth in the East with a 31-29 record), they could certainly use all the help they can get.

Aside from Simmons, Durant is still sidelined with a knee injury, though it looks like he is getting close to a return.
