The Charlotte Hornets defeated the San Antonio Spurs convincingly 131-115, thanks in large part to Gordon Hayward registering one of his best performances of the season. It was a much needed win after dropping the first of their six-game road trip in Dallas, where they were blown out.

Charlotte got in a good rhythm straight out the gate. The ball was moving around, guys were getting smart shots, and they got out and ran in transition. For James Borrego, it has to always feel good to get a win against the team that brought you up.

Borrego mentioned that he “feels a number of emotions” whenever he walks into the building. Emotional or not though, he still went out there and handled business.

Of course the game ball goes to Gordon Hayward. His 41 points helped fuel the Hornets' lead to balloon to over 30 points. He was also super efficient all over the floor, shooting 15-of-19 from the field, and 5-of-6 from deep. He could do no wrong on the offensive side of the ball.

However, Borrego foresaw this moment for Hayward since he played well in San Antonio last year.

“I'm extremely proud of Gordon. He's been pushing for a game like this for a while. He played well here last season. There's just something about this building where he lights up. When he plays at that level, it takes us to another level,” Borrego shared.

Borrego couldn’t be anymore right about his veteran. Hayward's penetration initiated things offensively for his ball club. Shots weren't forced as well, he stayed composed and just played within the flow of the offense. Not to mention, he didn't play a single second in the fourth quarter. It goes to show what type of night it was for him individually, but Hayward is as humble as they come.

“The win is what I'm really happy about,” Gordon Hayward added. “Then to come here on the road in San Antonio, it was a lot of fun out there. For me, individually, it gives me some confidence moving forward and I have to continue to play with an aggressive mindset like that.”

With the Hornets finally getting some of their key rotation guys back in the groove, Gordon's huge night was necessary. He had to be the focal point for the team to win Wednesday night. Everyone else fell alone and chipped in where they could. Cody Martin also had a career-high 21 points and Miles Bridges flirted with a triple-double of 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

The Hornets are very close to being whole again, as LaMelo Ball could be back as soon as Friday against the Portland Trail Blazers. They will look to improve to 2-1 on their Western Conference road-trip.
