DALLAS — The Dallas Mavericks earned a 116-105 victory against the Houston Rockets on Saturday. Anthony Davis played well early in the game before later suffering an injury. Davis, who was making his Mavericks debut following the trade that sent him to Dallas for Luka Doncic, talked to reporters after the game. He addressed a number of topics, including the backlash that Mavs general manager Nico Harrison is dealing with following the shocking trade.

“When you trade a guy like Luka who meant so much to this city and this organization, you are gonna get some (backlash),” Davis said. “He's (Harrison) in good spirits, but I think he understands that. It's our job as players to continue to play basketball, win basketball games. The rest will take care of itself. Once we do what we think we can do and accomplish what we think we can accomplish, we're pretty sure things will go back to normal.”

Davis recorded 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks before leaving with a lower body injury. The Mavs still found a way to win in the end. Although the victory was promising, there has been backlash after the Mavs made the decision to trade the face of the franchise in Doncic.

Davis is confident in this Mavericks team, though.

“I believe in our group,” Davis added. “This is our first game (together)… We weren't even healthy. We were still missing Caleb (Martin)… Once we get 100 percent healthy, I just know what we are capable of… I just think defensively we are going to be a problem and offensively we will continue to figure it out… I'm confident in our group and what we can do.”

It remains to be seen if Davis will miss any time after suffering an injury on Saturday. Either way, the Mavericks will host the Sacramento Kings on Monday.
