On Tuesday, it was reported that Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 NBA season due to a torn ACL in his left knee. Irving suffered the injury during the Mavs' game against the Sacramento Kings on Monday night.
With Dallas now holding a 32-30 record and sitting in 10th place in the Western Conference, the attention shifts to Anthony Davis' possible injury return.
Will Anthony Davis return to Mavericks in 2024-25 season?
Davis, who is dealing with a left adductor strain, is expected to be re-evaluated on Thursday. There is currently no set timeline for his potential return from injury. With Irving now missing the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign, the Mavericks will have a difficult decision to make in reference to AD's return.
Unless he is completely healthy and ready to play, there is a chance that Davis may not return this season. Dallas will factor in the injury timeline, the team's standings placement, and the Irving injury before making a final decision. The Mavs will not risk further injury by bringing Davis back too soon, especially if a championship run is unlikely amid the Irving situation.
Rumors have been circulating about Davis' injury timeline, but the Mavericks have yet to officially announce a potential return date. The only information we know is that AD will be re-evaluated on Thursday as aforementioned.
It has undoubtedly been a challenging season for this Mavericks team and its fan base. Injuries have been a concern throughout the 2024-25 campaign. Before the Mavs traded him, Luka Doncic missed a significant amount of time due to injuries of his own. Since the trade, Anthony Davis has only played in just over half of a game with Dallas.
There have been plenty of other injury concerns as well. Now, Kyrie Irving is out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL.
