This news comes in after trade rumors surrounding Dennis Smith Jr. have heightened. Reports reveal that the Mavs have been in talks with the Magic and the Phoenix Suns — two teams who need a point guard. Though he's listed as out due to an injury, some believe that the Mavs have placed him on the trade block and are thus making the final arrangements.

The 21-year-old Smith Jr. has seen his role diminish upon the rise of basketball phenom Luka Doncic. While the two get along off the court, statistics reveal that when the two share the floor, they don't exactly yield the best results. In addition, head coach Rick Carlisle is reportedly not pleased with his playstyle, particularly his tendency to over-dribble coupled with his bad decision making. The team, however, have downplayed such reports.

Whether or not Dennis Smith Jr. continues his basketball journey with the Mavs or not is a matter of wait-and-see. The good thing for him is that he's just in his second year. There's still a ton of time to improve his skills and find a team that fully wants him.
