The Golden State Warriors defeated the Dallas Mavericks in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals Sunday night, 109-100. In the loss, Mavs superstar Luka Doncic dropped 40 points once again. That's the third time in this post season he has done that, all of which ended in Dallas losses.
After the game, Fox Sports personality Skip Bayless took to social media to blast the Mavs' Doncic. He pointed to something that many pundits have often talked about; his defense.
Luka Oncic. No D.

“Luka Oncic. No D,” Bayless tweeted.
Doncic actually had a pretty solid game defensively in Game 3, based on his standards anyway. The Mavs forward had a couple of deflections and blocked two shots and came up with a steal in the loss.
However, in one particular, series-defining play, Doncic was on the wrong end of one of the sickest dunks in recent playoff history.

With Dallas trailing 91-83 and just over six minutes left in the fourth, Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins skied over Doncic and threw down an insane jam. Initially the refs ruled an offensive foul on Wiggins, but upon review, they overturned the call and the dunk stood.
In Doncic' defense, he rotated in time defensively. The problem was Wiggins went to the fifth floor and dropped Luka off at the third.
Nevertheless, Bayless points to the reason why Doncic is not in the conversation for best players in the world. The Mavs best player is absolutely one of the best scorers, one of the best offensive players in the world. But the truly transcendent players can dominate on both ends of the court. That's what Jordan did. That's what LeBron did for much of his career.
Until Doncic can begin to play good defense regularly, he will likely continue to find himself posting 40-point playoff games in a loss.
