Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban told local reporters on Thursday Mavs shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. will likely undergo surgery to insert a rod in his leg to address a left tibia stress reaction.

The Mavs announced last week Hardaway was done for the rest of the season. Dallas acquired the guard in the Kristaps Porzingis trade with the New York Knicks on Jan. 31.

Tim Hardaway Jr. played in 19 games with the Mavs. He averaged 15.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists while shooting 40.4 percent from the field, 32.1 percent from beyond the arc and 76.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Hardaway will make $18,150,000 next season. He has a player option worth $18,975,000 for the 2020-21 season.

The good news is that Hardaway is expected to be fully recovered before training camp starts. Next season is going to be a big one for the Mavs, who will be shooting to make the playoffs.

Porzingis will suit up next season alongside star Luka Doncic. Having a healthy Hardaway in the mix as well will give Dallas some nice firepower.

In 403 career games with the Knicks, Atlanta Hawks and Mavs, Hardaway is averaging 13.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists.
