The Dallas Mavericks made a big move by acquiring Christian Wood from the Houston Rockets via a trade. The Mavs shocked the NBA world by making it all the way to the Western Conference Finals this season.

Luka Doncic had a tremendous campaign, ascending to an even more highly regarded superstar. The 23-year-old averaged 31.7 points per game, with 9.8 rebounds and 6.4 assists during the postseason.

Wood gives the Mavs a solidified starting center who will be an excellent fit. The Mavs now have another scoring option, which will help them, especially in the playoffs.

This season, Wood averaged 17.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. He shot 50.1 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from three.

While trading for Wood helps Dallas improve, they need to make more moves to get them over the hump. Acquiring another wing would be highly beneficial to the Mavs improvement. In the postseason, Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock endured heavy minutes, as Dallas had no reliable options besides them to turn to.

This is the Mavericks' biggest need to address as they have depth at other positions. With that said, here is the next trade the Mavs must make in the 2022 NBA offseason after the blockbuster deal for Christian Wood.

Mavs Trade That Must Be Made In 2022 NBA Offseason

Thunder receive: Frank Ntilikina and a 2025 lottery-protected first-round pick

Mavericks receive: Kenrich Williams

Kenrich Williams has been in trade rumors since the deadline and could be a valuable forward to add. Nicknamed “Kenny Hustle,” Williams can contribute on both ends of the floor.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are in the midst of their rebuild and have been stockpiling draft picks. Dallas could use Frank Ntilikina to match the salary and a future lottery-protected first-rounder to get the deal done.

This season, Williams averaged 7.4 points along with 4.5 rebounds while shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 33.9 percent from behind the arc.

Williams is not a consistent three-point shooter but showed potential to be a knockdown shooter in the 2020-21 season, where he shot 44.4 percent from downtown.

His defense and size at 6'7” would give Dallas another wing to utilize in the playoffs.

Doncic, Brunson, and Wood can carry the offensive load, allowing Williams to play off of them. Playing with stars in Dallas will help his offense improve compared to the opportunities in Oklahoma City. He can provide solid defense along with Bullock and Finney-Smith to better contain elite wings.

The Western Conference is filled with talent and will only improve next season. The Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers are bound to bounce back. Both teams contain great forwards, with LeBron James and Anthony Davis (if he is at PF) for the Lakers and Paul George and Kawhi Leonard for the Clippers.

More depth at wing won't stop the aforementioned players but will provide better personnel to match up with them.

Williams should be able to provide about 20 minutes per game and be a crucial part of the rotation. Doncic has proven in his young career that he can elevate others around him. Williams will bring the intensity defensively, but what he can produce offensively remains in question.

Doncic's ability to be an elite playmaker can help Williams become the best version of himself offensively.

The Mavs started the offseason off with a phenomenal move with Wood headed to Dallas. Filling their only hole at the wing position will make Doncic and the Mavericks a scarier team.

NBA fans should look out for the Mavs as Doncic and the roster looks prepared to make another deep playoff run.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this article mentioned Sterling Brown as a trade piece. It has since been corrected to reflect that Brown was part of the Wood deal.
