Detroit Pistons rookie Cade Cunningham is playing well in his first NBA season, putting himself well in contention for the Rookie of the Year award. However, there is one issue he knows he must address sooner rather than later as he progresses in the league: his foul trouble.

Cunningham admitted that he is “killing” himself with his foul woes, as evident in their latest game against the Boston Celtics. The Pistons rising star was solid in the game, putting up 25 points on top of seven rebounds and three assists. Unfortunately, he could have made more impact had he not put himself in a difficult position with his five personal fouls.

Detroit lost to Boston 113-104, and it's safe to say Cunningham was not happy with the way he played and has been playing this campaign.

“I'm killing myself with those fouls. I just got to be better, be smarter. Once I get one, I just got to be smarter about not picking up more,” Cunningham said, per James Edward III of The Athletic.

Cade Cunningham is averaging three fouls per game, so that's definitely a major area of improvement for him. If he wants to make a winning impact, he has to be on the floor and not be limited on what he can do. Everyone knows that when you're in foul trouble, it's hard to attack and defend given the fact that officials might call for a foul even with the smallest of physical hits.

The good thing is Cunningham is aware of his problem and has shown willingness to work on that aspect of his game. It will not be easy breaking bad habits, but there's a reason the Pistons made him the first pick of the 2021 Draft. He just has that much potential to be a superstar in the league.
