New Golden State Warriors recruit D'Angelo Russell will be swimming in unfamiliar waters as he enters the fifth season of his young career. With the Dubs, Russell will be sliding down to a second option (or perhaps even third, once Klay Thompson returns from injury), after establishing himself as the go-to guy for the Brooklyn Nets over the past two years.
Russell completely understands the situation he is in, and he definitely has no complaints about it. Instead, the 23-year-old continues to work on the development of his game, with a focus on further improving his ball handling:
“I think ball-handling is something you can always get better at, so I’m trying to turn that up a notch,” Russell said, via Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype. Also, I’m just trying to keep my body in the best possible shape it can be in.”

Russell got his first-ever All-Star nod last season, and it is without question that the former second overall pick has now forced himself into the conversation of the best scoring guards in the game today. Nevertheless, the Ohio State University product is definitely not resting on his laurels, as he confidently stated he has a long way to go before he is able to say he has reached the peak of his career:
“I think the sky is the limit,” he added. “Like you said, I’m still a young player in the league and I’m still trying to find my way. I’m just trying to continue to get better day by day.”
Russell arrived in Oakland this summer as part of the blockbuster deal that sent Kevin Durant to the Nets. While there were some whispers about the Warriors wanting to flip Russell as a potential trade asset, it appears the front office is adamant the talented guard will have a significant role to play for the team moving forward.
