DeMarcus Cousins has had his share of growing pains defensively since getting the green light to return as a member of the Golden State Warriors. While he has shown flashes of brilliance with blocks and steals, he's also blown assignments and been late to contest shots, as he still gets his legs underneath him after a year-long absence from the game.

The big man talked openly about what's been hindering him thus far after a 128-95 loss to the Boston Celtics at home made the issue all the more glaring.

“It's an adjustment, to try to figure things out and see how we're gonna play with the coverages,” said Cousins after a 128-95 loss to the Boston Celtics. “I'm gonna adjust to this game and like I said, we're trying to figure it out right now and what's best and it's a different look with the personnel in the game.

“To say I'm struggling (on defense) it's a bit foolish. It's a different look every day with the personnel. Of course with Kyrie and Jayson Tatum you want to be up on the screen and then in other situations you play other guards back, when you play a big, you play in the drop.”

To say Cousins is the only problem defensively is foolish. There is more to it than that.

Silly fouls early in the game, turnovers, blown assignments on wide-open (and dangerous) 3-point shooters have set the bed for the Warriors to trail by 10 or more points in 12 of the last 14 games, making this a matter of all players in Steve Kerr's system, not just Cousins.
