Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green had a chance to send the Dubs to the playoffs last season at the end of regulation of the play-in tournament game against the Memphis Grizzlies. With the game tied, Green had a clear path to the rim in the final seconds but instead threw up a wild floater that caught nothing but air. The Warriors went on to lose in overtime, ending their season.

Green reminisced about that play with The Athletic's Anthony Slater while talking about his offensive game. The Warriors veteran has a reason for why he missed the game-winning attempt so badly:

“What happened was I lost track of time!” Green insists. “I just flipped it up there because I lost track of time.”

The Warriors star expanded on his answer:

“In a situation like that, I’m kind of just keeping track of time in my head because I can’t look up,” Green said. “What if it’s two-tenths of a second? By the time the ball came down, there was still time on the clock. I’m like, ‘Oh, shit!’ It wasn’t that I didn’t want to shoot it, I just completely lost track of time and thought I needed to get it up there. That’s why when everyone asks: ‘Does it haunt you that you missed that shot?’ No, if anything bothers me it’s that — as the point guard, which I think I am — you gotta know the time. Time and score is everything.”

Green is always very candid, so it's interesting to see him explain what happened in that moment. The Warriors losing that game was a shocker and a big disappointment, and he knows he screwed up.

Golden State is now out for revenge this season. The Warriors have started 5-1, and Green is playing aggressively o the offensive end. While he's never going to be a scorer, the Dubs need him to look for his shot at least sometimes in order to have the most success possible. He's trying to make a habit of that this season.
