Klay Thompson was thankful for an explosive Kevin Durant performance in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, carrying a heavy scoring load with the Golden State Warriors' backcourt unable to flip on the switch with underwhelming performances.

“That was amazing,” said Klay Thompson, contemplating Durant's efficient 43-point barrage on Wednesday night. “He gave me and Steph a night off, which is nice. When you got what coach calls “the ultimate luxury” — when your backcourt combines for 20 points, but your small forward gets 43 — it's a beautiful sight to see.”

Durant put any views of him playing second fiddle to Stephen Curry in the Finals MVP race in the back burner, reminding the Cavs what a devastating grim reaper he can be on the floor on nights when he's got the sprinkler system going.

His performance was reminiscent of last year's Game 3 in Cleveland, when he hit a now-iconic pull-up 3-pointer over LeBron James to give the Warriors a one-point lead and the eventual lead to go up 3-0 in the series.

This time around, Durant did it from about five feet behind the spot, connecting on a 33-footer that gave the Warriors a six-point lead with 49.8 seconds left in regulation, really twisting the knife on an already deflated Cavs team.

The 2017 Finals MVP could potentially garner the award for a second straight year after this performance, boasting the statistical advantage over teammate Curry after this display of fireworks on the road.
