The Golden State Warriors were recently bounced out of playoff contention after a heartbreaking loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in Oakland. Still, head coach Steve Kerr is viewing his team's glass as half-full despite missing the postseason for the second-straight year.
Speaking with reporters, Kerr gave everyone an alternative POV on the Dubs' campaign, via Warriors on NBCS:
Article Continues Below“I think this season absolutely was a success, we would have loved to have gotten into the playoffs and tried to make a run. We were really a good team over the last 22 games I guess. To put together a stretch like that over an entire quarter of a season, that’s not a fluke, we were the No. 1 defense in the league during that span.”
“To watch Jordan (Poole), Juan (Toscano-Anderson), Mychal Mulder, these young guys grow and develop, that makes this a successful season because of what it sets up for next year.”
Indeed, the three players mentioned above ended up as revelations for the Warriors, especially Poole and Toscano-Anderson. These youngsters are giving Golden State fans more hope for next season when they welcome back Klay Thompson.
The Warriors are expected to become instant contenders in 2021-22, owing to Thompson's comeback. While he definitely shores up the core lineup, Golden State's bench would be more dangerous if Poole and Toscano-Anderson continue their development.
James Wiseman will be expected to play better in his sophomore season after an abrupt end to his maiden campaign. Most importantly, Stephen Curry will have an extended offseason to make sure his body is in tiptop condition after playing through a tailbone injury for a certain stretch.
