Stephen Curry single-handedly carried the rest of the Golden State Warriors in Game 4. They returned the favor in Game 5, as a team effort carried the Dubs to a 104-94 win to take a 3-2 lead back to Boston.
Curry was cold as he could possibly get in the pivotal showdown, scoring just 16 points and missing all nine of his three-point attempts. It didn't matter in the end as the Warriors won the battle on the defensive end, holding the Celtics to 94 points and a rough 41.3% shooting clip.
Stephen Curry was asked about the defense that ultimately secured the victory. The Warriors star made sure to personally thank Mike Brown for leading the way in that regard, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic.
“Mike Brown has been amazing in terms of re-establishing the importance of that side of the basketball, from training camp to now,” Curry said. “Not letting anybody slip up in terms of accountability on that end of the floor.”

According to Slater, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr deserves credit for giving Brown full autonomy to handle Golden State's defense the way he wanted to, making it his primary focus. In a way, he acted like the defensive coordinator in football, installing his own system that the team clearly bought into.
“We’ve tried a lot of different things over the course of the year,” Curry said. “Traditional man coverage, all the box-and-one, zone stuff that we can kind of sprinkle in from time to time. But at the end of the day, it’s just effort and intensity and kind of relentlessness on that front. We’ve done a really good job of maintaining that for the most part throughout the year and trying to plug in where there’s a little — I guess you call it deficiencies compared to teams of the past.”
The scary part for the Celtics is that the Warriors have yet to put together a complete game with their defense humming while Stephen Curry goes off. If they can maintain this defense in Game 6, there's a good chance there's no tomorrow for Boston.
