It's no secret that the Warriors and the Cavaliers are the NBA's next best rivalry. Both teams have met in the last three NBA Finals, and can't stand each others' guts because of their constant warfare over the years. Head coach Steve Kerr went as far to say that the Warriors and Cavaliers resemble the famous Lakers-Celtics rivalry in the 80s.
Kerr compared Warriors-Cavs to Lakers-Celtics of the 1980s. “I don’t try to downplay it at all,” Kerr said.

In the 80s, the Lakers were known as the “Showtime Lakers” led by Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and James Worthy. The Celtics were led by Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, and Dennis Johnson. According to Mark Medina of Mercury News, Kerr explained why he believes that the Cavaliers and Warriors rivalry is similar to one of the best sports rivalries of all time.

“We just want to kick each other’s ass,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “There’s no sort of love lost. That’s how it should be. We should be trying to beat each other. “Lakers-Boston was the dominant rivalry. Our rivalry with Cleveland is the analogy of the modern NBA,” Kerr said. “It’s the same thing. You got superstars all over the floor. You’ve had three Finals meetings. You have so many games and so many people watching. It’s definitely a special feeling in the building when both teams are there.”
The Warriors will face the Cavaliers on Monday night for an MLK Jr. Day showdown. No matter who wins, the outcome will surely be the talk of the NBA for a while. In fact, if both teams make it to the NBA Finals for a fourth straight time, Kerr's claims may just be right.
