Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has been outspoken with his opinions on gun violence in the United States. Following the recent shootings in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas, Kerr reiterated his stance — this time with a firm message.
As part of an interview with Bay Area News Group, Kerr called out the “gutless leadership” of this country for allowing these acts of violence to persist:

It might happen because we’re all vulnerable, whether we go to a concert, a church, the mall or go to the movie theatre or a school. It’s up to us as Americans to demand change from the gutless leadership that continues to allow this to happen and continues to somehow claim the second amendment is doing its job. The second amendment is about the right to defend yourself. The only thing that second amendment is doing is leading to mass murder right now. This is all just insanity.”
According to several reports, as many as 31 people were killed in the mass shootings that occurred over this past weekend. Several of the victims are still hospitalized.
A gunman shot and killed at least 22 people in an El Paso Walmart on Saturday. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Patrick Crusius, has been charged with capital murder.
Another nine people were killed in a shooting in the Oregon District of Dayton, Ohio. The suspect in that shooting is also dead.
Though he is clearly frustrated with they way things have been handled, the Warriors head coach is confident these mass shootings will stop at some point:
“It’s going to happen. The momentum is building,” Kerr said. “People are more and more frustrated in our country. I think at this point, the vast majority of people in this country have had it. Now it’s a matter of taking action.”
