San Francisco, CA – Two mass shootings that resulted in 18 deaths made headlines all across the country. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr used his pregame press conference to speak out against the two mass shootings in Atlanta, GA, and Boulder, CO.
Kerr took the podium before Golden State's game with the 76ers. Behind him on a backdrop were the names off victims from mass shootings.
“Before we start, you notice the names behind me on the screen there,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “They are names of the victims in both Atlanta and Denver over the last two weeks in the mass shootings that we have suffered. I think it's first of all important to reference their names.”
“These are human beings. These are people who have been lost, and the thought of the mothers and fathers and sisters, brothers, daughters, and sons who are grieving right now with the loss of the people behind me is just devastating, particularly in the wake of what is just a common occurrence in our country and an inability of our representatives and government of doing anything about it.”

Denver Nuggets coach Mike Malone also shared an emotional speech during his media availability.
“This is a game, a game I love, I have a passion for, but I think about Eric Talley and his seven kids. That's what I think about, and I'm just heartbroken for them and everybody else, and hopefully, we as a country, we as a state, can find a way to be better,” Malone said.
Even though these men are paid to coach basketball, they share the same pain and frustrations we all do with tragedies like these. They are doing what they can and using their platforms to create positive change outside of basketball, and hopefully, we find a way to make things better soon.
