San Francisco, CA – Everyone knows how valuable Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is as a scorer, but the new thing people learned this season about the two-time MVP is his defense.

His improved defense got noticed. A little before the Golden State Warriors laced them up against the No. 1 team in the league Phoenix Suns a reporter asked Steve Kerr if he thought the Dubs’ defense was struggling because he's gone.

Kerr had a humorous response.

“I love it. There’s going to be an article on ‘we miss Steph’s defense,” the Warriors coach told ClutchPoints. “He’s had a great defensive season for sure.”

The Warriors were the No. 1 ranked defense for a large chunk of the season. Curry was healthy and playing well on defense but so were others.

“Draymond (Green) is at the center of that too,” Kerr explained. “He’s the engine behind our defense, but in those earlier games we had a lot of guys playing at a high level with great energy and enthusiasm and alertness at that end of the floor and Steph was among them, but, like I said, so was Draymond, so was Gary (Payton II), Loon (Kevon Looney), Otto (Porter Jr.) – you name it. We’ve strayed from that and we are searching for ways to find that team.”

The Warriors have plans to make a postseason run, and if they do it will be behind their defense. It's what made the team special all season. When they are playing smothering defense they are extremely hard to beat.
