The Memphis Grizzlies did not have Lady Luck on their side during the recently-concluded NBA Draft Lottery. After having the second-best chance of locking up the first overall pick, they fell all the way to fourth.
This virtually takes them out of the running for the consensus top two picks in DeAndre Ayton and Luca Doncic — two players which the Grizzlies definitely had their sights set on.
This may have led to their reported willingness to explore the possibility of letting go of the fourth pick. Sean Deveney of Sporting News believes that the Grizzlies will want to trade down a few spots in an attempt to secure the services of a small forward such as former Michigan State Spartan Miles Bridges or 21-year-old Mikal Bridges.
If this indeed turns out to be a reality, then surely the team from Tennessee will be finally pulling the plug on the doomed Chandler Parsons project.
Article Continues BelowAfter missing the Playoffs for the first time in eight years, many believed that the Grizzlies would be looking to overhaul their lineup. This does not appear to be the case, as there have recently been no indication of the team's desire to ship out either of their cornerstone stars in Mike Conley and Mark Gasol.
Without any other big names to offer, it would be close to impossible for the franchise to secure any type of deal with either the Phoenix Suns or the Sacramento Kings for the first and second picks of the draft. Trading down would then become the more plausible scenario.
The Grizzlies are in quite a pickle right now. Their front office will have its work cut out for them over the next few months as they try to navigate through a massive margin for error.
