Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley has had an uncharacteristically poor start to the season. He’s averaging 17.3 points per game but is shooting just 37 percent from the field and 26 percent on three-pointers. His assists are also down from 6.3 last season to 4.3. However, the 30-year-old doesn’t seem to be too concerned about his slow start and remains confident he’ll come good eventually.

Conley is coming off a terrific campaign last season wherein he set new career-highs in scoring (20.5 points per game), field goal percentage (46 percent), three-point percentage (41 percent), and 3-pointers made (171).

That season could be considered more of an outlier, though. Conley had been fairly consistent in terms of keeping his field goal percentage at around 44 percent and his three-point percentage in the 36-38 percent range for most of his career.

Even with Conley’s early-season shooting struggles, though, the Grizzlies have still managed to cope. They are 5-2 and sit alone atop the tough Western Conference.

With Conley’s strong track record of consistency, it should just be a matter of time before he returns to playing at the high level he’s capable of. If/when he does return to his career norms, the Grizzlies could potentially get better than they already are at the moment.
