On Wednesday afternoon, a mass shooting shook the nation at Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida. In the aftermath, 17 innocent people were killed after a man fired at students, teachers, and staff during a terrifying raid. After the incident, there were already rumors that the suspect would plead a case of insanity once he is convicted for the murder of 17 people, most of which were teenagers . Los Angeles Clippers star Lou Williams quickly condemned Cruz for his actions, expressing that his sketchy background should draw no sympathy from anyone.
*terrorist* fam. We don’t feel sorry for his upbringing. https://t.co/5vrbe5v3Ad

According to a police report, Cruz is identified as an orphan child with potential ties to a White nationalist group. It remains to be seen if his ties to the group had any influence on his decision to kill 17 people on Wednesday afternoon.

An orphaned 19-year-old who participated in paramilitary drills with a white nationalist group was charged with murder Thursday in the deaths of 17 people who were fatally shot at a huge Florida high school in the nation's deadliest school attack in five years. As the criminal case against Nikolas Cruz took shape, the leader of a white nationalist militia called the Republic of Florida said Cruz was a member of his group and participated in exercises in Tallahassee.
It isn't clear yet on what will happen to Cruz once legal matters kick in, but Williams makes a very valid point. Obviously, any questionable background doesn't excuse anyone to commit a horrible tragedy such as this. All of the affected individuals in this incident will have a very tough time recovering, and no amount of justice served will help the families bring back lives lost due to this senseless tragedy.
