LOS ANGELES – The city of Los Angeles is still celebrating the return of the Vince Lombardi trophy. Behind monster performances by Aaron Donald, Cooper Kupp, Matthew Stafford, and Odell Beckham Jr., the LA Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. LA Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue is a big Rams fan, and got to enjoy the victory first-hand.
The Clippers contingent at SoFi Stadium for the Super Bowl included Ty Lue, Nicolas Batum, Terance Mann, Marcus Morris, Norman Powell, Luke Kennard, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George. Lue, however, is from Mexico, Missouri and thus is a big fan of the Rams, who moved to Los Angeles from St. Louis in 2016.

Most players didn't have any rooting interests with the exception of one Luke Kennard, an Ohio native who was strongly rooting for the Cincinnati Bengals to win Super Bowl LVI. In the end, it was Aaron Donald's pressure that forced a turnover on downs with about 38 seconds remaining.
Ahead of Monday's matchup between the LA Clippers and Golden State Warriors, head coach Tyronn Lue spoke about the Rams championship.
“Unbelievable experience,” Lue said. “Just happy for the Rams, just happy for Sean McVay, the job he's done, OBJ (Odell Beckham Jr.), [Aaron] Donald, all the guys that were on the team that contributed — Matthew Stafford. You know, guys said he couldn't get it done and to play the way he played throughout the course of the year, throughout the course of the playoffs, just showed you that he is a Hall-of-Famer, just happy for all of the above.”
Lue played football in high school, so he's got a good grasp of the knowledge and strategies of the game. That didn't help ease his nerves once Odell Beckham Jr. suffered his ACL injury in the first half and all the attention was on Cooper Kupp.
“I got a great feel for the game, especially playing in high school. I understand the game really well. A little nervous, but when OBJ went out, it kinda causes our over the middle threat, our underneath threat, and so I was a little nervous, but we came through, and so it was a great win for us.”

The reason? Coach Lue says he wanted zero distractions for his Rams.
“I did. That’s why I didn’t sit in the suite. I wanted to be in the stands. I wanted to watch the game, I don’t wanna talk. I don’t wanna mingle. Like, I just wanna watch the game. So sitting in the stands was a great experience. Like I said, it was a great experience. It was unbelievable, to be in LA and win it in LA, that was great.”

The Clippers will look to follow in the Rams footsteps and bring a championship to LA in the near future. Like the Rams, the Clippers traded away most of their youth and draft picks to get players that'll help them win now. Once Kawhi Leonard and Paul George are healthy, this team could be really dangerous. Until then, Tyronn Lue will continue to do what he does and that's to bring the most of his current, shorthanded roster.
