The largest sale in professional sports history went down on Wednesday as the Los Angeles Lakers were sold to Mark Walter, who is also the owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is a huge change for the Lakers, and it will be interesting to see how this sale affects the team's offseason. For example, Luka Doncic will be eligible to sign an extension with the team on August 2nd, and ESPN's Brian Windhorst thinks Doncic should get that done as soon as he can.
After this sale, the Lakers have been involved in two of the biggest moves that we have seen this season. The other was trading for Luka Doncic. No one saw it coming, but he is a Laker now, and Brian Windhorst is urging to Doncic to stay put in Los Angeles for a while after the sale.
“Look, I think the Lakers are a great spot for him even before this ownership change,” Windhorst said on Get Up. “Now I would tell him with this potential investment you couldn’t be in a better basketball situation in the world with the Lakers. Having said that until he gets into that contract there will still be a little bit of uncertainty.”

The Lakers need to keep Doncic in LA as he is one of the best players in the game, and LA is a great spot for Doncic. Like Windhorst said, it was already good for him, but this sale just made it even better.
“I’m a big actions over words person, especially in the NBA,” Windhorst continued. “This is where Luka can absolutely do that. So I would argue one of the most important things on the table for the entire NBA this summer is whether Luka signs a contract extension with the Lakers this summer. Which he can do on or after August 2nd. He can sign for four years and up to $230 million. He has some reasons why he may not want to sign for four, he could potentially sign for three, but the Lakers need to get him into that contract.”
This is a big item on the Lakers' offseason checklist as Luka Doncic is the future of the organization. LeBron James doens't have too many years left in him, and LA wants Doncic to be the face of the franchise when that inevitable retirement occurs.
