During his AMA session on Reddit, former Los Angeles Lakers big man Horace Grant was asked to speak about his relationship with the late Kobe Bryant.
Grant and Bryant won the 2001 championship together when the Lakers defeated Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia 76ers in five games.
Horace, who played with Michael Jordan on the Chicago Bulls as well during the '90s, says he and Kobe “were very close.”
“We were very close. One year Phil had us pull names from a hat for Christmas gifts. I pulled Kobe’s name, and I gave him a bible,” Horace Grant recalled.
“And when I gave it to him he was like “man, thank you so much. This is exactly what I want and exactly what I need.” That’s what he said to me. From Day 1, we were close. Nothing but respect.”

Bryant is the greatest player in Lakers franchise history. His tragic death still doesn't seem real despite the fact it has been months since the helicopter crash that took his life.
The Black Mamba won five titles and two Finals MVPs with the Lakers. He finished his Purple and Gold career with averages of 25.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists.
Along with Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant was named an NBA Hall of Famer for this year's class. It's very sad that we won't get to hear Kobe's speech.
