The Los Angeles Lakers have proven to have a way of winning games when leading heading into the fourth quarter in recent seasons. However, Monday night's defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers snapped the Lakers' 59-game winning streak when holding a lead after three quarters.

Heading into the fourth quarter of Monday night's loss, the Lakers held a narrow 85-84 lead over Portland. However, it would be Damian Lillard and Gary Trent who would lead the Blazers to a 115-107 victory over the reigning NBA champions.

Having players who perform well late in games like LeBron James and Anthony Davis definitely helped Los Angeles extend this streak to 59 games. However, with a new-look roster, the Lakers are still working on their chemistry to begin their season.

Given that, if Los Angeles is going to lose a few games, most of them are likely going to come early in the season. The key additions of Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell, Marc Gasol, and Wesley Matthews — once the Lakers figure out their best rotations — seem to set Los Angeles up for another deep run in the playoffs.

Everybody knows that all good things must come to an end at some point, even for a team as talented as the Lakers. Los Angeles will look to begin a new streak on Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs.
