The Los Angeles Lakers will reportedly not hire a new President of Basketball Operations to replace Magic Johnson, according to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

Johnson stepped down from his post during an impromptu press conference at Staples Center before the season ended. No one inside the Lakers organization saw the move coming.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka will continue in his role, reporting directly to owner Jeanie Buss and her confidants. Pelinka was previously reporting to Johnson.

The Lakers hired former Indiana Pacers and Orlando Magic head coach Frank Vogel last week. NBA Hall of Famer Jason Kidd — who has a very strong relationship with superstar forward LeBron James — will be Vogel's lead assistant.

Los Angeles hasn't made the playoffs since 2013. To say this summer is a big one for the Purple and Gold would be an understatement. The franchise has to sign a star player in free agency to pair next to James. Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, Jimmy Butler and Kemba Walker are the notable All-Stars who are free agents this offseason.

Do Lakers fans trust Pelinka to turn the organization around? Probably not. However, they don't have a choice now since he's going to be running the team.
