The trade that sent Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers sent shockwaves through the sporting world. The situation is still red hot, especially since the aftermath of the move has blown up in Dallas' face. Recently, Doncic finally opened up about his initial reaction to the deal, and it sounds like he was furious with the trade.

During a sit-down interview with ESPN's Malika Andrews, the 26-year-old phenom revealed that he threw his phone upon learning about the trade. Doncic held up the phone, which is clearly damaged, with a beaming smile while claiming he still uses the phone to this day.

Luka Doncic's departure from Dallas was a bit ugly. Not only did the Mavericks trade him away for Anthony Davis, but the team didn't get nearly enough in return for the deal to make sense. Additionally, the organization originally claimed they had concerns about his weight and felt the decision to deal him to the Lakers was the right move for the franchise as a whole.

Despite that, the fanbase has been loud with their disapproval of general manager Nico Harrison and the ownership group. The Mavericks received tons of flak after Harrison shaded, not only the fans, but team legend Dirk Nowitzki, while defending the decision to trade Luka Doncic.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles has largely benefited from Luka Doncic on the roster. The Lakers enter the postseason as the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference, and much of the success is due to Doncic's brilliant play. Through 50 games played in the regular season, Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game while shooting 45.0% from the field and 36.8% from the three-point line.

With the trade in the past, Luka Doncic and the Lakers will begin their playoff journey with a Round 1 matchup against Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves. As for the Mavericks, they hope to make the postseason themselves but must first overcome Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies in a play-in tournament game on Friday night.
