Despite not playing a single NBA regular season game yet, Lonzo Ball can already be considered one of the more popular players of the league. While his father, LaVar, is a big reason for building a lot of hype around him, he also helped raise his popularity with solid performances during the Summer League and living up to expectations. It also helps that he will play for one of the most storied franchises in the NBA, which definitely boosts his stock further.
The Los Angeles Lakers rookie has already been part of a lot of headlines, and will continue to make news in the future. That said, USA Today Sports has decided to make a website solely dedicated to him, called “Lonzo Wire.” It will include updates on him, including analysis on his jump shot, and his performances throughout the season, according to Alex Putterman of Awful Announcing.com.
Article Continues Below“Last week, USA Today Sports Media Group, which has had success with micro-sites covering each NFL team, launched Lonzo Wire, an online outlet devoted to all things Lonzo. Early content included two posts about Lonzo (and his father, LaVar) appearing on Ellen, two posts about little brother LaMelo’s college basketball eligibility, a post about Lonzo’s “beef” with the rapper Nas and, yes, an analysis of the Lakers point guard’s jump shot. In total, the site published 30 posts over its first seven days, all about Lonzo or his family. In its narrow focus and thorough devotion to a single subject, it’s unlike anything else on the sports internet.”
This definitely says a lot about the potential of Ball to become a consistently much talked about athlete in the coming years. The development is also the first time for a rookie to be given this much attention by a big name media company, but it is very understandable, as they know that he is indeed a hot topic, and will remain that way for a long time. Whether he plays well or fails to continue his strong start as a professional, Lonzo Ball will turn a lot of heads, and USA Today Sports is ready to chronicle every move he does.
