The Los Angeles Lakers announced on Monday some of the important dates for them in the coming weeks, leading to the start of next season. Media Day will be on September 25, followed by their training camp that will only be four days long, according to Daniel Starkand of Lakers Nation.
“On Monday the Los Angeles Lakers officially announced that their Media Day for the 2017-18 season will take place on Monday, Sept. 25 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. PST.”
“Training camp will last just four days this year from Sept. 26-29 before the Lakers begin their preseason schedule on Sept. 30 against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Honda Center in Anaheim.”
The shortened preparation for next season’s grind is believed to be brought about by its earlier start, which is on October 17. But the good news for teams is that it will lessen the number of back-to-back games to give their players more rest. Another important item it will address is preventing teams from sitting out stars on some nights, especially on national TV games, therefore, keeping the level of competition high and the media partners happy.
Ironically though, the new-look Lakers, who added Lonzo Ball, Brook Lopez, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope this offseason, will open their campaign with a back-to-back set. They will face off against their cross-town rivals, the L.A. Clippers on October 18th, and then travel to Arizona to face the Phoenix Suns the next day.
