To help the Los Angeles Lakers land another ‘high-level free agent' in the summer, Anthony Davis reportedly intends to waive his $4 million trade bonus.
Per Arye Abraham of Bleacher Report, a source revealed that Davis plans to wave his trade bonus to free up some cap space for the team.

If Davis indeed waives his trade bonus, the Lakers will have about $27.7 million in cap space, which is not enough to give a max contract to free agent. If he does take it though, LA's cap space will go down to just $23.7 million.

In addition, if the Lakers wait until July 30 to seal the trade, they could have up $32.5 million in cap room — enough to accommodate a max-level free agent. However, the expectation is that the trade will be completed by July 6.

Either way, the Lakers seem to be in a good situation. They are in a good position to add a top-tier free agent and surround Davis and LeBron James with solid role players.
Davis' decision to waive his trade bonus simply means that the 26-year-old is dead serious about winning. He already got paid during his tenure in New Orleans. Now that he's a Laker, Davis is all about winning that title.
