Lakers guard Lonzo Ball's brother, LaMelo, has opponent cancel their scheduled game against his new high school team due to his professional experience. The youngest Ball played pro ball in Lithuania with the BC Vytautas and in the Junior Basketball League with the Los Angeles Ballers.

Bill Difilippo of Dime Magazine wrote a column on the decision of La Lumiere School to cancel their game with Ball's SPIRE Institute.

“The scholar-athletes at La Lumiere School are here to prepare in every way for success at the college level,” the school said in a statement, per The Times of Northwest Indiana. “We aim to put together as competitive a schedule as possible for our team, but we have never played against a team whose roster included any players who have played at the professional level. With the recent news that someone who has played professionally intends to play for SPIRE Academy, we are not comfortable moving forward with our game slated for next Tuesday against SPIRE.”

This decision will definitely create ripple effects with other schools associated in the same tournament with SPIRE. Even so, the school's associate academy director Justin Brantley emphasized that LaMelo never received any compensation for playing professionally in the JBL and in Lithuania. Thus, the school believes that Ball can legally play high school ball.

Despite this statement, many people still find it difficult to believe that Ball was not paid while playing for those two professional leagues. Ball already debuted for SPIRE in a 20-point, 10-assist outing against Hill School.

This obviously alters the Lakers zero.
