Things are going well for the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night as they look to keep their season alive against the Sacramento Kings. After a tightly-contested first quarter, the Mavericks blew the game open with a 44-19 second quarter to take a 71-48 lead into halftime.
Anthony Davis is always the key to how the Mavericks are playing on both ends, and his impact has been felt so far even though he's not having his best shooting night. However, during the second quarter, Davis gifted the Kings three points with an inexplicable goaltending on a 3-point shot.
Here’s something you don’t see often:

The Kings need all the help they can get on both ends of the floor at the moment, so they will take any charity that Davis wants to give them. However, Doug Christie and company better figure out how to score some more points and get some stops on their own if they want to stage a comeback to keep their season alive.
Article Continues BelowAt the moment, the Kings are staring down a similar fate as the Chicago Bulls earlier in the night. The Bulls got blown out in front of their home fans to send them home from the postseason, and the Kings seem to be headed down a similar path at the moment.
Davis had 12 points in the first half on 5-for-12 shooting and knocked down a big 3-pointer just before the end of the second quarter to stretch the Mavericks lead. Klay Thompson was also hot, going for 16 points on 4-for-6 from 3-point range.
The Kings have the firepower to try to stage a comeback with Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Domantas Sabonis, but they have a lot of work to do to close the gap against a hungry Mavericks squad.
So far, the Davis goaltending is about the only thing that has gone wrong for the Mavericks. Dallas appears to be well on its way to taking on the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday night for a spot in the playoffs.
