The Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal each had their own rollercoaster of an offseason as the two did cross paths at one point, but nothing came from it at the end. Beal did a diary post for AndScape talking about how his life has been moving from the Washington Wizards, traveling to Arizona, and the other teams involved in a possible trade.
Beal admitted that the Heat was the first team he wanted to go to and talked with President Pat Riley about the possible move via AndScape.
“So, my initial favorite was Miami. And so, we call Miami. [Miami president] Pat [Riley] says well I’ll go talk to [owner] Micky [Arison] and figure it out,” Beal said. “So he goes, talks to Micky, we go, we hear back [New York] Knicks, Sacramento, Brooklyn a little bit, and then it was Milwaukee and it was one more big team … And that was kind of one of the most difficult things about every trade and every team. And I respect and love every team, but a lot of them just couldn’t do it because the money was just so high.”
Why didn't the Heat get it done with Bradley Beal?
At the end, Beal said in his diary entry that Miami couldn't make the trade and mentioned that the reasons could've been about the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) and the luxury tax. He envisioned how owners would say “We don’t want to get hit over the head with that” and later acknowledged that it's a “respectable decision.”
