Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra has 120,000 reasons to win.

Make that $120,000.

An article from the International Business Times revealed that Spoelstra earns at least $120,000 per win. It quoted a report from Patch last January:

“The 49-year-old is earning $3 million this year. A report from Patch revealed that a 0.51 win percentage of the Heat in January 2020 means that Spoelstra is earning at least $120,000 per win. Coaches do receive game bonuses and for achievements unlocked, which means his per win game salary could become much bigger.”

If that is accurate, Erik Spoelstra has already earned at least an extra $6.3 million for the Heat’s 53 wins so far this season, including the playoffs. Not bad at all for someone who started from below the ranks as a video coordinator in 1995.

The mild-mannered mentor took over the Heat in 2008 shortly after Pat Riley retired. Since then, he has delivered two titles in South Beach, steering the Big Three era of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. He has compiled a 567-392 record for a .591 winning percentage, which is third-best among active coaches with at least five seasons. Curiously, he has yet to win the Coach of the Year plum.

The Patch report also said Spoelstra is reportedly the NBA’s sixth highest-paid coach per win. He is behind the Dallas Mavericks' Rick Carlisle, San Antonio Spurs' Gregg Popovich, Los Angeles Clippers' Doc Rivers, Washington Wizards' Scott Brooks, and Detroit Pistons' Dwane Casey.

But with the way the Heat has overachieved this season, it looks like Spoelstra could climb up the list.
