Jimmy Butler joined the Miami Heat via a sign-and-trade deal with the Philadelphia 76ers over the offseason. Along with Butler, the Heat also obtained rookie Tyler Herro out of Kentucky, and the youngster has already proven himself to be a tremendous offensive player due to his exploits during the preseason.

Now, during a game against the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday, Herro lit up scoreboards and notched 29 points (including 19 in the second quarter) on the way to a new career high.

Butler applauded Herro’s efforts after the game in a quote to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press:

“I doesn't surprise me, and I don't think it surprises anyone in this building anymore. It damn sure shouldn't surprise anybody in the league. The guy's a real player.”

The Heat clobbered the Hawks on Tuesday in no small part to Herro’s shooting exploits, in which he put up those 29 points with only 7 of 9 shooting, thanks to an insane 12 of 16 showing from the foul line, as the Hawks could not help themselves from fouling Herro out beyond the three-point line.

Butler seemed to not enjoy playing with young players, such as Karl-Anthony Towns, during his tenure in Minnesota, but Herro must have that certain something that allows him to be respected by a persnickety veteran like Butler.

Either way, the Heat are sitting pretty with a 3-1 record to start the season, and have already logged two wins without Butler, including one season comeback against the Milwaukee Bucks in overtime.
